The Truth of ‘Change’
Posted by Concerned Citizen on 7th March 2008
After watching the video I posted yesterday, I began giving some serious thought to what it could mean to this country if someone like Barack Obama is allowed to weaken our military as he plans. With the ever changing world we live in where serious conflicts can arise in hours and affect the security of the United States or the freedom of millions, the very last thing we want to do is diminish our technological advantages, readiness levels and the exception efficiency with which we can deal with our enemies.
Contrary to the popular belief of the Marxist left, our military has been the symbol of liberation and freedom since World War I and beyond. Throughout history we have come to the aid of those who could not help themselves or who faced aggression from totalitarian regimes. We broke the trench lines of World War I to help our allies reclaim Europe. During World War II we stormed the beaches of Normandy, climbed the volcanic peaks of the Pacific and endured the freezing battlefields of Bastogne to liberate Europe and Asia from brutal oppression. We held the line in Korea to keep those who desire liberty free from those who wish domination. Even in the hell of Southeast Asia, we fought to prevent communism from dominating the free people of South Vietnam. We liberated the tiny nation of Kuwait and protected the other nations in the region from the aggression of Saddam Hussein. There our countless other times when we answered the call: Kosovo, Panama, Somalia, Grenada, etc. We have never refused the plight of liberty or shied from a plea for help. We cannot start now.
Our military has never failed to answer the call to defend freedom. Nor have our soldiers ever failed the call to come to the aid of those in need. Even when defeated in Vietnam, it was not their failure, but our own that cost the freedom of millions. Americans should show shame for Vietnam. Not for our brave soldiers who answered when their country called; not for the fallen who never returned to their lives or loved ones and not for the country that sent them to defend those who faced the onslaught of oppression. We should feel a deepening shame for our actions here. We should feel shame for the betrayal of our soldiers, for the betrayal of our principals and for the shallowness that we showed in our callous disregard for the sacrifices made by our sons in the name of liberty and freedom for others.
I watch that video and I see a man who would cripple our military’s strength. I see someone who would not have the spine to stand up to aggression. I see an appeaser. I see a Chamberlain. I see an embarrassment and a failure on our part if we elect this man to be responsible for our military. I see someone who will betray our men and women in service to this nation, just as we did during Vietnam. I see a coward.
With today’s current conflicts, we need a President who will fully support our military, invest in advanced technologies to protect them and develop weapons systems that can deal devastating force to our enemies with as little risk to our soldiers as possible. Our military used to be the most feared force on the planet, even unto our enemies that out numbered us many times over. Russia was forced to keep a military force approximately three times the size of ours because they feared the superiority of our forces. We should be looking at a man who will reconstitute this fear in our enemies, not tell them that we will disarm and want to talk. Had Russia ever sensed a weakness in us, they would have struck hard and fast. By showing them the strength and resolve to defeat them at all costs, we prevented the fight from ever occurring. Peace through strength.
Within the last few days, Ecuador, Venezuela and Nicaragua have severed diplomatic ties with Columbia. Venezuela has mobilized ten tank battalions and moved them into position along the Columbian border in response to a Columbian raid into Ecuador to eliminate Farc rebels who were striking targets within Columbia. What will happen if tensions worsen and the socialist nations aligned against Columbia surge troops into her border? Will we respond to an ally in need, or will we let them fall to avoid getting into another conflict?
After all the assistance that Columbia has provided in our struggle with narcotics in this nation, we are indebted to them and obliged to assist them if they request it. Should we turn our back on a friend or will we rally to the cause once again to defend liberty against aggression? If we do fail to defend our allies, why would any nation feel that they can trust us in any diplomatic avenue? Right now, all free nations of the world know that if they are faced with aggression and oppression, the United States of America will rally to their defense. What has become of this nation when we have abandoned our core principals of freedom and refuse to do that?
When that call comes into the Whitehouse at 3:00AM in the morning, who will you want to answer the call? The man in the video from yesterday? I think not.

There is cause for great concern in the world today. Like the slow swell of a dormant volcano, it is hard to judge exactly just how dangerous the world is. Then we have weeks like this one where the seismic tremors signal the sleeping giant’s warning of what is to come.
